Thomas Ruff
I was inspired to rediscover Thomas Ruff's work this week after reading his interview with Joerg Colberg, from Conscientious. A memorable quote was, Thomas Ruff: "The images or themes come from my daily life. I read newspapers, watch TV, surf the Web and meet people. When I notice or run into something that I won't get out of my head again I start to work on it." At the moment I am really digging his jpegs series, a series of jpegs that he pulled from the internet and then blew up to enormous proportions, exaggerating the pixelation that occurs when one enlarges a digital image.
This process is similar to what I am currently doing in my work, especially in my Skype Portrait series, a series of images taken during video chats with friends and family.
