Internet Photography

I have been working on a new series; "Photographing the Internet". The concept of this project is to use photography in the digital realm, namely the internet in the same way that I use photography in the physical world. That is using a camera to record moments and compositions of interest for further inquiry. In the above image I have taken simple screen capture of a Google image search for art. The question what is art, is a difficult and complex paradox, however google seems to be able to provide an objective answer using distinct visual examples. Needless to say this project is only in the preliminary stages and I plan to cultivate and explore this process thoroughly.

The Remix

Summer

Ice Cream. Melting Cookies and Cream Country Cone. Ice cream as a past time. People enjoy eating ice cream because it tastes good. What is the relationship, psychologically, between the temperature (heat) outside and the satisfaction of ice cream (cold)? Perhaps the two equate to a neutrality of sorts whether it be mentally or physically.

Art?

Damien Hirst new exhibition Beyond Belief at London's White Cube gallery is creating quite a stir in the art world. Specifically, his work For the Love of God, a skull encrusted with £12 million worth of diamonds. Tickets to view this work in a darkened room for five minutes have been selling out everyday. Damien Hirst is no stranger to controversy and conceptually challenging works of art, having sold a shark in a glass case filled with formaldehyde for £13 million. However, this works to pose a new challenge one of timelessness and value. The sparkling skull has a quality of timelessness and preservation in that it is displayed and guarded as an ancient artifact. It also through the art market makes a commentary on it, inherent within the astounding value of the work of art. Damien Hirst skull has more diamonds than the Royal Crown. This work if nothing else provides a solid confrontation to the transient and ancient question, what is art?
